Ars longa, vita brevis. (Art is long, life is short.)
The Advanced Placement course prepares students for the College Entrance Examination Board’s Advanced Placement Vergil
Examination. Students will read approximately 2,000 lines of the Aeneid in Latin, and the entire poem in translation. They will master dactylic hexameter and the use of tropes
in golden-age poetry. By the end of the course, they will be able to analyze passages of Vergil in terms of the major themes and symbols of the poem, historical considerations,
and rhetorical effect. All students take the AP Vergil Examination.
